I inserted an animated GIF into a powerpoint file and the window popped up
asking for animation options regarding play automatically or when clicked.
All worked well. When I try to insert animated GIFs now I do not receive this
window and my GIFs will not animate when in slide show. They animate in
Windows picture and fax viewer soI know they work.

Are you sure you inserted an animated GIF when you got the
automatically/when clicked option? Usually that only pops up when you insert
a movie -- Insert|Movies and Sounds|Movie from File.

Inserting a GIF is usually done via Insert|Picture. Animation or not has to
do with a combination of version of PPT and the GIF itself. See
