Create hyperlink that opens a new window?

I'm using Ppt 2000 on an XP PC.

I'm making a web-based training presentation & I'd like to use hyperlinks to
go back & forth between a ppt presentation & html pagex that play SWF files.
I added the hyperlink to my ppt & it works fine if I'm viewing it from ppt
software (click on hyperlink -> new window (IE) opens -> SWF plays -> user
closes browser & is returned to the ppt slide where he/she left off).

If I FTP the ppt to our test website, the ppt is viewed in a browser, the
hyperlink doesn't open a new browser window. The user has to click the
"back" button to return to the slide show. I could add a hyperlink to the
SWF file that links back to the specific slide, but I have about 300 of these
& I'd rather avoid the hassle if possible. If I could get the ppt to open
the hyperlink in a new window when it's viewed online, the user could just
close the new window & return to the correct slide & I'd be all set. Here
are other options I've considered, but would like to avoid due to time
constraints & the large scale of this project:

- converting ppt to html pages & coding the hyperlink in the html (instead I
keep it in ppt format & just view it online)
- embedding SWF file in ppt
- converting ppt slides to swf & making the whole training lesson 1 long movie
- coding some type of "open new window" command into the hyperlink target
web page

I just keep thinking "there's got to be some checkbox somewhere that allows
me to specify that the hyperlink should open in a new window" but maybe I'm
wrong. Thanks in advance for reading this long mess & for any help you can
provide!

Long, yes. Mess, no. Always good to have all the details ... thanks.

PowerPoint doesn't have the magic checkbox you're after, unfortunately.

But have a look at http://ppt2html.pptools.com
It's a commercial add-in that gives you a great deal more control over the HTML
you get from PPT. It doesn't deal much with PPT animation (you didn't need
that, did you? Not with all those lovely SWFs? <g>) On the other hand, with a
bit of a push, it'll allow you to put SWFs right in the HTML (automatically, no
manual coding required after the setup's in place). Or will let you set things
up so that links open in a new window (always the same one or a different window
for each link, your choice).

Thanks for your reply Steve. I downloaded the ppt2html demo and played with
it a bit. I'll delve into it more, but offhand it looks like the addin just
converts ppt to html and allows me to change the html coding to open the
hyperlink in a new window. Am I missing something?

It does a surprising amount for a small add-in. It's worth spending a little time
