I'm needing to have a long segment of text scroll up on the screen to be read by the viewer, but I need to keep the title of the slide at the top without having the words scroll over it. So I need to create some kind of invisible line under the title so that the words will scroll up and then disappear after they hit that line. Can this be done? There may be better way, but I would add a rectangle the same colour as the background over the top part of the slide then it's just a matter of getting the object order right (ie all scrolling text behind the rectangle, but the title infront). I'm using a background from one of the design templates. I tried doing what you suggested but it just gives me a solid color. It doesn't look like it recognizes the Design Template as the "background." Try this. Click View > Master > Slide Master. See if the background is inserted as a picture (which you can select it and moves it around) there, or is it inserted as a background which you can't select it. If it is inserted as a picture, right click on the picture, select Save as Picture. Re-insert it as a background. To do so, click Format > Background. Click on the dropdown field, select fill effects. Click on the Picture tab, and click "Select Picture". Look for the picture and ok your way out. Now follow John's method. If the picture is already inserted as a background, this is probably a bug. Not sure of a workaround though. You can try changing the autoshape to white, then set it back to background fill again, but can't guarantee it will work. That can be a problem- Try this create a blank layout slide with just the template background. Save As > choose jpeg> current slide only Create the slide in question but apply a blank template to this slide only before you do anything else Now format background > picture > the jpeg and try with that. I've never really understood how the master influences the background fill but it will work with some determination. It > doesn't look like it recognizes the Design Template as the "background." this is what I usually do... you need to copy the picture you have used for the background and paste it onto the slide over top of your scrolling text (but arranged underneath your title). Then use the crop tool to remove the bottom portion of the picture up until where you want your "cieling" Also.. you can improve the scrolling effect if you use a PNG image with a "faded" ceiling... copy the background image into a photo editor (photoshop) and use a 5pt-10pt feather to cut away at the point you want the text to dissapear. Then the problem is how the background was inserted, as the others are explaining. If you're not distributing the file via the Viewer, you can put in a scrolling textbox from the Control Toolbox toolbar. Sept 17-20, 2006 http://www.pptlive.com I was just playing with this and had the same problem of an autoshape with background fill being a solid colour even though the master had a picture as background and I fixed it by downloading an Office 2003 update. Maybe that's the issue?
