I cant get powerpoint to change the fraction 3/5 or 7/8 to change to fraction
character.  1/2 and 3/4 will but not other ones.

The fractions 1/2, 1/4, 3/4 are likely to be characters in the font you are
using.  The auto-correct option in PowerPoint senses that you have typed 3/4
and converts it to the single space character.  (You can tell PowerPoint no
to replace these if you want.)

Less common fractions do not have single character representations so remain
in their native form.  You could try applying a super-script to the
numerator and sub-script font formatting to the denominator and see if this
is 'close enough' to what you need.  Otherwise, you will need to use a
custom font set (I've not seen one), or an image to replace these text
fractions with prettier ones.
