no slide transitions with audio

I have a 1' voiceover that runs while pictures transition in, but the
tranistions won't run unless I remove the voiceover clip. I've tried this on
several computers- same problem. Any thoughts?

In custom animation pane, double-click the sound. Set it to "after 999"
slides.
