How to stop PowerPoint charts from flickering on screen?

Thanks in advance for your help on this. I'm working on a PowerPoint
presentation with numerous images. Every time I hit a slide with a table on
it, the presentation starts flickering. It freezes and keeps flickering for
about 60 seconds. Then, I'm able to resume. Each time I click on the table,

Instead of using a table, I drew 6 boxes. It worked fine until I tried to
shade the boxes. Then the flickering resumed.

The problem also happens in another presentation that has screen-sized
photos. I created this presentation several months ago. It worked fine until
now.

It doesn't seem to be a space issue. I have over 50% capacity (52GB free).
When I click on the slide, CPU usage pops up to 13 - 49 and memory usage goes
from 37,992K to 37,998K.

Any about what's happening and how to fix this?

It's a display issue, usually fixed by turning hardware acceleration down.
(I know it's counterintuitive, but I often have the same problem here.)
Sometimes turning off certain background programs helps, as does not having
a ton of other applications open at the same time.

Echo almost certainly has the answer. Just to add needing to turn the
accelleration back often means that the graphics driver is not doing a good
job (but thinks it can if you see what I mean). You may find that there's an
updated driver available.
