how do I get powerpoint to accept codecs other than microsoft vide

I cannot get powerpoint to play videos other than the old microsoft avi video
codec which is old.  Is there any way to add codecs to p.p. or at least see
what codecs are available?

Codecs install/use are a function of Windows, not PPT.  Which version of
Windows are you using?
