copy and paste slide is blank

When I copy a slide from one presentation and then paste it in another the
slide is blank. The slide is a picture in background with text.

When you paste you should see a little "paste options" button (if not enable
in tools > options >edit)

Click it and choose "keep source formatting"

I think this only works in XP / 2003

No, I don't get the paste option when I paste even though I enabled it under
tools options edit. I think the problem is that it is my background.

Did you copy the slide by selecting in the small pane to the left or the
slide sorter ? Select All > copy wont do it.

Assuming you have at least XP ppt you could also use insert > slides from
files and click "keep source format"
