Have followed Office Online's suggestion to change the ruler to metric
through Control Panel / Regional Options / Customise / Numbers / Measurement
/ metric; but that was already chosen.
Reselected it and applied, reopened PP, but still in inches.
Please help!

Change it back to inches, start PowerPoint, quit PowerPoint, change it back to
metric again and once again start PowerPoint.  Sometimes it takes an extra
whack upside the head to get PPT to switch.
