When I go to Action Settings for an item there is a Run Macro and Object
Action that show up but are greyed out.  How do I select those options?

For Object Action, I believe some types of objects have actions while
others don't. For Run Macro, that will be grayed out if the presentation
does not have any macros to run.

You must insert an object "Insert", "Object", like an Excel worksheet, in
order to right-click the object and set the Object Action.

You must also have a macro in your presentation in order to set the Run
Macro to one of them.  Also, make sure your macro security is set to MEDIUM
(Tools, Macro, Security), close PowerPoint, then re-open for these changes
to take affect.

The Run Macro action is grayed out if there are no macros that can be run.
Add a macro and it should become active.

Likewise, Object Actions is only available when an object can have Actions
applied (like a movie or sound or spreadsheet from excel).

Thanks, that helps me understand what those are.

What I actually want to happen is for a slide to only transistion on the
click of an object but I wanted the current slide to do one more animation
after that before transistioning.  is there a way to do that without having
to have them click another time? doesnt seem to be...

There are ways to make it appear like this is what is happening, would that
be good enough?

On the first slide remove the advance on click option (transitions pane).
Apply the Hyperlink to the shape to be clicked that 'advances to next
slide".  Create a new slide that looks like the end of the first one, the
create an animation that activates with previous and auto-advances in 00:01
seconds.  The user will click on the shape and will not notice the slide
change (because it is identical), will see the animation and then the new
slide.  Work?

That would work. Thanks, I'll have to see how big the file becomes, it may be
too much for a simple effect.

Appreciate the help though, a nice simple solution..
