We both have the same IT group, and the same PowerPoint Version (2003) We
both have SP1. I know there has to be differences in the two, but I'm lost
on this one. Maybe some setting for slide show that would be different for
laptop vs. desktop?

Check in file >page set up that neither of you have a "custom" setting.
(should be on screen show)

SP2 is the latest for version 2003. I would update both computers,and then
see if the problem still exists.
