Hi,
My wife and I both have the same OS, 98se. When I play a pps file, that
a friend sent to us, I get sound. When she plays the same file, which I
copied to her system, she gets NO sound. We both get the slide show. We
both have the same versions of Power point, SR-2 I think.
I can play a .wav file on her machine and get sound, so I know the
hardware's working.
I've read all the advice elsewhere re link in powerpoint, but I can't
really make head nor tails of it.
Thanks,
John

If you received more than just the one PPS file (ie, you got a sound file as
well) you'd need to copy that to the same folder as the PPS on your wife's
computer in order for it to work.

If you got just the one file, it's possible that you have the needed codec on
your computer but she doesn't on hers (codec = sofware used to compress and
decompress sounds;  at last count whoever was counting gave up, there are so
many of 'em. <g>)

Have a look at the multimedia faq on www.pfcmedia.com for a detailed
explanation of all this (and lots of good suggestions on what to do about it).

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the link. I think I only have the one file, but ????
If there is another, sound, file on my system which is linked to my pps
file, how would I find it?

If the PPS came by email, the sound file (if any) would probably be attached to
the same email.
