PowerPoint Viewer Installation

I recently had to reload Windows XP and Service Pack 2 due to computer crash.
I have been trying to download PowerPoint Viewer and it pops up with the
Installation Setup Complete, but when I try to use it, the .pps file cannot
find it. It is not being saved as an .exe file apparently, because when I
open it from Programs it looks in My Documents for PowerPoint Presentations.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them.

The file that you download from Microsofts download site is not the viewer,
but an installation file, which you have to install and will get 7 files in
your Office program folder: PPTVIEW.EXE plus some dlls plus HTM explanation.
Check whether Windows "knows" it has to open PPS with PPTVIEW.EXE.

Ute

I have tried to associate the pps files with pptview, but have been unable
to.  I have decided that I don't know as much about computers as I thought I
did.  Please explain how make sure that this association has been made.
Details please.
Thank you,
Marty

Which operating system do you use? In Windows XP you open the Windows
Explorer, right-click on any PPS-file, choose "Open with", look for
PowerPoint Viewer, check the box "Always use this program" and click OK. The
PPS file should be opened and your computer should save this setting for the
future.

Best regards,
Ute

I finally resolved my problem by removing Windows Installer and reinstalling
it, then reinstalling Powerpoint Viewer.  I was then able to associate the
PowerPoint program with a pps file and for it to work. Thanks for your
interest and all of your help.
