How do I set the option to have a widescreen presentation in PPT?

In widescreen or plasma monitors I should get a widescreen PPT. In normal
monitors it should have two patches on top and bottom to show that they are
specifically for widescreen monitors.

Maybe use file > page setup to set the dimensions to the ratio you need?
