Adding or editing text slows or locks PowerPoint 2000

When I type any text or edit any text, it slows PowerPoint 2000 to a crawl or
locks it up

This does not happen with the other programs in Office 2000 suite
The only erros message I received (earlier but no longer tget the message)
was that "did not have sufficient resources" (have not been able to replicate
generation of that particular message again)

I have unloaded and re-installed PowerPoint (alone). Then tried uninstalling
all of the Office 2000 suite and re-installed it, but the problem persisted

Does anyone have a solution or suggested corrective action?
