I have a series of three photos on a slide that I have fading in and out so
that they overlap with a smooth transition. But after the last picture
animation, the last picture viewed is where the "picture shw" stops, I would
like for the cycle to repeat. Any suggestions?

Try this
Give the slide an auto transition 0 secs
Make it a single slide custom show (slide show > custom show > add new)
In slide show >set up show tick loop until esc
Have an action button to go to slide x to get out of loop
