Notes page text reflows randomly?

I'm asked to add text/references to notes pages that require text to flow a
certain way. For example, "20 mg" or "half-life" need to stay together but
there's no non-breaking space/hyphen in PPT so I resort to forced line breaks
(soft returns). However, at any given moment, whether I save the file or
print it, the size of the notes pages changes before my eyes. The margins
change, the text box containing the notes text changes size and the flow of
the text changes completely, leaving gaps from those soft returns.

My question is this. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a way
to keep the notes pages from randomly changing size and reflowing the text?

I don't want to move the notes pages to Word. I would like to keep it all in
PPT. Is there some setting that I have to disable?

As for Microsoft, *please* get rid of the autofit text feature. I can size
my text just fine and it shouldn't randomly resize. This has provided many
headaches for me.

Thanks!

CTdesign,
Don't know about the notes changing but you can have a non breaking space.
Hold down the Alt key, and on your numeric keypad type 0160, release the
mouse button, that should give you a non breaking space.

awesome, thanks! That will help a lot... is there a keycode for a nonbreaking
hyphen?

However, the text will reflow and I'll have words that stick together to
form unnatural gaps... I would still like to know what this problem is about
but great suggestion!

Thanks.

I'd still like to know why the notes page is resizing itself and shifting
the size of the text box...

I don't understand resizing itself. Have you gone into the Notes Master and
set the size of the text box?

Yes, I set the size of the notes master text box. I customized it like I
would a slide master.

Once I put text into the notes pages and formatted the text the way I wanted
to (sometimes this required going outside of the master styles), the size of
the PAGE started changing. The margins were shifting and the size of
everything was sizing up or down with the page.

I can't find a reason why this would happen, even if there's too much text
in a box, it should size down with autofit or if I turn off autofit and size
it myself.

Any one of these things could be a reason why the size is changing, but
they're not acceptable reasons for a page size to shift erratically.

Does that help explain it?

I don't use note pages to that extent. I have Autoformat turned off, so that
if I do have more txt than will fit into the prescribed area I create a
hidden blank slide to carry any notes overflow, and have personally not
encountered the problems you are having. Will play with it once If get the
chance later this week. In the mean time if anyone else has experienced this
an found a solution, don't hesitate to jump in.
