Hi,
Need urgent help with a power point file.
I have 2 .ppt files (created in May 2006) that I am trying to open
However, I was getting the message " PowerPoint can't open the type o
file represented by[location/file name].
I have tried all the methods that is in the Microsoft help page bu
still of no help. Tried the demo recovery and repair softwares an
still not able to open the file. Some software were giving the messag
the header is missing.
However, now when I attempt to open the file, the ealier message doe
not appear anymore but it is opening a blank presentation. The fil
size is 2MB.
Please help urgently

Was it created with a later version of PPT and could it have been password
protected? If so 2000 won't be able to open them at all.

we are on a LAN and updates are installed regularly. Anything I woul
have missed?
I cant open these 2 ppt files only. The other ppt files are ok.

Try downloading Impress, the presentation application in Open Office. It
will often open files that PPT considers corrupt. http://www.openoffice.org

I tried that as well. The funny thing is,when I open impress and locat
the ppt file and open, it is opening in open office writer. it i
opening a few thousand pages with funny characters on it.
Please advise. The file size is still 2MB. I am sure the data is stil
in it and I can retrieve it somehow... but how?

It sounds like you've somehow added the wrong extension to the file, maybe.
Try showing file extensions and then naming the file so it ends in .ppt
(that's dot ppt). Here's info on showing file extensions:

You tried Insert | Slides From File in a new presentation, right?
I guess try Insert | Slides From Outline if that failed.
