how do i set about creating a poster design?

trying to create a poster for a project and was wondering if I just design it
and produce it in a normal powerpoint slide or is there a setting for poster
design?

You'll want to use File, Page Setup and create a page size that either matches
your poster size (if under 54" or so) or one that's proportional to your poster
size.
