Powerpoint will always stop if you do something else. The only way to achieve
what you need is to use an addin eg Powershow

Actually, if you are running Vista there is another way...
Set your presentation so that it is running in a window and set to loop
continuously until the escape key is hit. Start the presentation. Move the
window to the other monitor. Keep working on your main monitor and watch the
magic. There is some more information in one of my blog posts (and - yes - I
know I haven't updated the blog since last year - I've been traveling :) )
