Powerpoint problems

Has anyone ever had a problem saving a presentation getting the following
message?
'There is an active inserted or linked object that can't be saved
automatically. Please close the object first'.
I keep getting this message even when I have nothing open. I merely insert a
graph and try to save.

My other problem with Powerpoint is when I try to open up a presentation and
double click into a graph to try to edit the datasheet. I then get the
following message: 'Microsoft Office Powerpoint can't start the application
required to open this object. An error occurred and this feature is no longer
functioning properly. Would you like to repair this feature now?'. It will
then start to install the server application if I click 'yes' but the next
message that appears is 'The server application, source file, or item can't
be found, or returned and unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server
application'.

I've tried unstalling office and reinstalling but the problem still exists.
I had the same problem with my work pc when I tried to open any powerpoint
file. Too much of a coincidence not to be a bug or virus but my IT guy
couldn't resolve it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
