Audio insertion timing hard wired?

I've been editing some mp3's in my sound editor, then re-inserting them into
my pps slide. Yes, I delete the old one first. (Note that I use the same
file name as the original. This doesn't appear important but bear with me.)

On two slides I was astounded that the last several seconds of each sound
file were omitted. The first one played 16 of 22 seconds. The next played 46
of 58 seconds.

While I still have hair left I think I've sourced the problem. On the first
one I clicked on Custom Animation, Right click on the sound clip, Timing,
Sound Setting. I then saw under Information "Total playing time: 00:16"
followed by the file path and name.

It looks as if the total playing time is now hard wired with a playing time
that is obsolete since the new file is 22 seconds long.

Have I done something wrong? I suppose a workaround would be to rename the
newly edited file and insert that. While I haven't tried that yet I wanted
to report this here first at the chance that I truly have done something
wrong.

I have not experienced this exact situation (although I have encountered
many other problems with multimedia and PPT), but here are a few thoughts,
suggestions:

1. Delete the sound icon, then save the presentation before inserting the
revised sound.
2. If the audio file is renamed, does the same thing occur - or because PPT
sees an entirely new audio file is all okay?
3. Download and run the "Fix Links Pro" add-in, as one of its primary
purposes is to create relative links to multimedia files (vs. the hard link
you see when going into the Edit information) -
http://www.pptools.com/fixlinks/index.html
4. Last, what version of PPT are you using, and what service packs are
installed?

Troy, I'm afraid I (may have) jumped to conclusions, that is, that PPT was
to blame.

A few days ago I had just begun using WavePad 3.05 for audio editing. My old
editor Wave Creator 3.1.0.47 has limited options. The problem may be sourced
to my new WavePad (or PPT).

For example, on a 1 minute audio, PPT only plays the first 50 seconds.

As a test I loaded the same file into my old (and few options) Wave Creator
3.1.0.47, re-saved the file, then inserted it to PPT. PowerPoint correctly
played the entire file of 60 seconds.

I then loaded that file back into Wavepad, did a re-save and inserted to
PPT. PowerPoint played only the first 50 seconds.

Hi Len,

I tried to duplicate this with WAV files and PPT 2003 SP2.
I set options so PPT links any sounds over 1kb so that the linking behavior
should match what you're getting with MP3s.

No luck.  Or lots of luck in that it worked as I'd expect it to.

What version and SP of PPT are you using?

Hi Steve,

Please refer to my reply to Troy. As I stated there, the problem is likely
WavePad. I posted to their forum last night but no replies.
