... a friend or two email me over the course of the year... always
with great pictures. I'm trying to build a "Dream Board" but would
love to grab some of the excellent pictures that some of these
powerpoints often contain...any ideas? Newsgroups? Websites? Torrents?
where can I find them?

You need to bear in mind that many images are copyright. Responsible
presenters will respect copyright law, though the use of images for limited
teaching purposes may be OK in some instances. A great place to start is a
simple Google search using the image tab, or using sites such as Flickr
