Please advise me as to what is the best way of using a single inage to create
a tiling effect on one slide without overlap of images, using powerpoint.

Sr. Margaret Mary,
The best way would be to go to Format - Background - Fill effects - on the
texture tab choose Browse to add your own and select your image, it will be
tiled automatically - choose apply so that it will only show on one slide.

Just to add to that excellent advice. You must make sure that the image size
is the size you want to see (maybe 150 pix square?) You can use Office
Picture Manager to resize if needed or of course something like Photoshop if
you have it.
