MS Office Forum / General PowerPoint Questions / April 2007Involuntary going to rest mode
during my presentation while i am in between slides for 3 to 5 minutes, the presentation goes in to " rest mode" and out of presentation mode. How do I stop this from happening. What do you mean by "rest mode"? Is the slide show exiting so you're dumped into "Normal" (editing) View? Or do you mean something else? However, in an environment where the IT department has changed the users permissions, it is possible that you are not allowed to suspect the screen saver. Do you work in a corporate environment with an IT department? I would suggest contacting them and explain (nicely) your need. You might also mention that you do not want to have to use voodoo dolls of the IT department workers in front of 300 people every time this happens. After all, that would look bad on the company. Burt -- I updated to PowerPoint 2007 and am experiencing the same thing you are. While in presentation, PP takes it into it's head to return to "normal screen" mode. If I hit the F5 key, it returns to presentation mode at exactly the same spot it left. I read all the responses to your querry and didn't understand ANY of them. Did you ever get this issue resolved? Basically, Bill Dilworth explained that PowerPoint will normally disable the screen saver, but many corporate computers are set up so that the screen saver cannot be disabled. When this is the case, it can cause the presentation to stop when the screen saver starts. So you need to talk to the IT people at work about your user permissions and disabling the screen saver. Hmmmm, that does throw a wrench into the works, then, doesn't it? :-) I don't know. Does this happen on a specific slide or specific spot in the presentation? Or after a consistent amount of time? Oh, maybe check Slide Show | Set Up Slide Show. Do you have "all" selected in the "Show Slides" section, or is just a range selected? How about hidden slides? Is it possible the remaining slides in your file are hidden? (You can check that most easily in slide sorter view -- just look for the grey box around the slide number.) If, for instance, you leave your email up, it may be grabbing the focus from PowerPoint's presentation every 5 minutes or so. Then, because the Presentation no longer has the focus, Windows may be calling in the screen saver. It could also be one of the IM programs or a virus scanner taking the computer's focus (even if it is for a brief moment). Do you have any add-ins loaded for PowerPoint? IM programs as background tasks? What virus scanner? However, you are in a position where you are in control. You can simply turn off your screen saver function completely. This is a normal windows function and you do not have an IT department to fight over permission with. Unlike Burt, you are able to turn off your screen saver and present away.
