I have Powerpoint 2003 at work and 2000 at home and on some charts
with heavy graphics the chart seems to refresh over and over and here
lately at work I can not choose another chart, without going starting
slideshow.

I have looked at the Microsoft support site but can not find an answer.

Try turning down your video hardware acceleration on the graphics card.
Often this sort of obsessive compulsive redrawing problem is fixed by a
simple adjustment to this setting.

Start => Control Panel => Display => Settings => Advanced => Trouble
Shooting => Hardware Acceleration.  Try turning it down a notch or two.
Repeat this until the OCD behavior stops.
