File name changes when opening office 2007 files in Office 2003

I have got the latest service packs for office 2003 and have backward
compatibility pack installed as well. But whenever I open an PPT 2007 created
pptx file in PPT 2003, the filename chages to ppt0000001. This has been
observed with excel and PPT files only and MS Word files work fine. Filename
is in English.
Also this doesn't happen on an English system. I've observed this with
Portugese and Finnish machines (OS and Office are of the same language). I've
got Office XP installed on finnish system and when opening a PPT 2007 format
file a message pops up saying "Converter failed to save this file".

Does this compatibility pack works for English only. I've already been to
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924074 but couldn't find anything of much use.

Hi,

Just so you know, I did some research on this and came up blank. Then again,
did you have the beta version installed?

Besides this, there might be a correlation issue between the office
Migration Convertor and your language. I'll keep looking.

Thanks Glen for the try.
But I'm again facing this problem. This time it's English Win XP-Office
2000. I've SP3 installed and file converter in installed as well. When I
double click on the pptx file it opens up as a temp file with filename as
ppt00000001. If I launch PPT and then drag drop the pptx file into the app
window then it says that "Powerpoint can't read the outline for this file. No
text converter is installed for this file type".
I have seen this issue on many machines. Is there some workaround.
