I've had this problem for some time but not seen anyone else complaining
about it, so perhaps it's my set-up.

I'm using Powerpoint 2003 using Presenter View and dual monitor.  However,
if I use my clicker (a Targus remote presenter) the slides sometimes move on
and at other times nothing happens.  I've experiemented with having the
cursor on the projector screen side but nothing seems to make the
mouse/clicker work consistently.

Has anyone come across this and have a fix?

The reason I use presenter view is because it shows what's coming next,
which is a reall boon in presentations.  If I use design view on my laptop,
the current and next slide doesn't always show in the preview scrolling pane
on the left.

Are you in an environment where other clickers are being used? Or are there
other wireless/etc. devices in the room? Some of the devices have real
problems with interference.

I don't remember if the Targus ones allow you to pick a frequency. If it
does let you, change the frequency and see if the problem gets better.

Another thing to check is if you have fresh batteries. Low batteries can
sometimes cause this too.

Thanks Kathy
It happens anywhere with new batteries, and no you can't change channels
(good idea through).  I think it's just that I need to have the cursor on the
presenting screen or over the right or left buttons in presenter view,
otherwise it doesn't work.  The nice thing about the Targus presenter is that
you can set the right click button to go backwards.  It just seems that
sometimes that it doesn't work even if the cursor is in the right place.
Hmm.  I'm going to have to replicate it tomorrow if I can and will report
back.
