Creating professional looking charts

I recently obtained a copy of Microsoft's Strategy Update, dated February 15,
2007 and was really impressed with pie chart on page titled FY08.  It appears
to have dimension to it.  Can anyone tell me how you to do this?  I'm
currently working with Powerpoint 2003.  I also noticed on this presentation
that the slides were protecting somehow so I couldn't go in and look at the
formatting.  How do you protect the slides to keep others from making
changes?  I currently have to convert the presentation into a PDF file to
avoid changing being made.  Any help you can provide is much appreciated.

As for how that presentation was created: I am guessing they did it using
the new graphics and charting features in 2007. Things look much better
there than in previous versions.

As for the protection, can you give us some details on "protecting somehow"?
Do you get a message when you try to edit them, or do they not select at
all? Difference would be whether the content is password protected or added
as a graphic....

I had a feeling that it was using a newer version of Powerpoint than 2003.

As for the protection, I was not able to click into the presentation at all.
I did not get any kind of message.

Without seeing the presentation, it would be hard to tell how they protected
the slides. Could you provide a source for the document to help us help you
figure it out?

As for 2007, you can do an online trial of PPT 2007. Go to Office Online and
follow the links.

The presentation I obtained is from Microsoft's website, under Investor
Relations and the presentation is entitled "Microsoft Strategic Update" dated
February 15 ,2007.  The pie chart is on the page entitled FY08.

Ok - Found the presentation. That slide and all of the slides in that
presentation are images of the slide saved and then inserted as the
background of the slide. This is a good way to protect your content if you
don't need to do any animations or make any changes to the slides.

It does look like the original presentation was done in 2007.

OK, I'll have to try that to protect my information.  Was there a version of
powerpoint after 2003 but before 2007.  I will need to push my company to
update to the newer version.

Thank you for all of your assistance.

Versions go from 2003 to 2007, with nothing (for the PC) in between.
