This may be a lame question for many, but when I connect my laptop to
a projector, I would like to see a view of Powerpoint on my screen
that vividly shows notes and even the slides (similar to how
PowerPoint on a Mac works). I am on Windows XP. Is this possible, am I
missing a setting somewhere?
Thanks

If your laptop has multi-monitor support (check your desktop properties,
ensure that the second monitor has "Extend my Windows desktop on this
monitor" checked), you can enable Presenter's View (Click Slide Show > Set Up
Show. Put a checkmark on Show Presenter View. Click Ok), which allows you to
see the notes during slide show.
