I have powerpoint 2003, is there any way in which I can change the page size
to A1? I need to both design the slide and print it out in A1 size if it's at
all possible?

You bet,

File > Page Setup should be just what you are looking for.

Click File > Page Setup.
Set up the size of the slides.
You can then print it in A1 by going to Print > Properties.
