I have downloaded and installed AutoDateTime - and it works fine and is just
great.
It seems to work using the Time frame on the master slide - and not on any
other frame into which you have inserted a time field..  Unfortunately I
have deleted the time frame from the Master that I use regularly and cannot
find a way to get it back.  Just adding a text frame and Inserting a date
field doesn't have the same effect as AutoDateTime doesn't recognise it.

Can somebody help me in getting back the Time (and Page number, Slide
number) frames please.

First make sure that you have not turned off  the date and time, and slide
number under View, Header and Footer. If that is not the case, then open any
other PowerPoint presentation, In the View Master, slide Master, at the
bottom you will see the at the bottom the date, footer, and slide number
place holders. Select them all and paste them into your Presentations
Master slide, close and save your presentation.
