embedding a large sound file

I see that sound files larger than 100 kb are automatically linked rather
than embedded.

How do I embed a large sound file in PP2003, besides changing the size under
tools, options?  And if changing this number under tools, options, is the
only way, do I have to make that change *before* I insert my sound, or can I
change the 100kb to a size bigger than my biggest file and then any sounds
already in the presentation will then be embedded?

Grannash,
Only wave sounds can be embedded, the limit is 50000Kb.
If you changed the setting after the sound was inserted it will not help.
Delete the sound and reinsert it. See this article for more help on the
subject of linking/embedding:

First of all, you probably already know this, but only WAV files are
embedded, so no matter what you do to that setting, it will only affect WAV
files. Second, to answer your question, the setting is not retroactive. Any
sounds that are already inserted as linked files will remain linked. You
will have to reinsert them to get them embedded.

An auto-embed command might be a good idea, but thank goodness the Tools |
Options setting isn't it. I could only imagine the product support nightmare
that would accompany a setting that, without warning, stuffs all WAV files
into a presentation.

Nope, the Link Sounds setting is strictly a before-the-fact affair...

Okay, thanks to all.  Yes, I was aware only .wav could be embedded.  So the
only way to embed these larger files is to change the limit before inserting?
Then if I only wanted certain files embedded, I'd have to pick and choose
which ones I insert before and which ones I insert after I make the change to
the 100 kb?  There's no way to tell PP: "embed *this* file please"?

It might be a pain, but you can change the setting back and forth to do
what you want. That is, you don't have to map it all out in advance. You
can decide as you go, adjusting the setting before each insert.

Hi,

Also, you should consider reducing the size of your wav. Go to the wav sound
recorder and open the file. You can format the wav file from there. Reply if
you don't know how to do this.
