How can I take off the edge of a shape in an irregular manner (like cutting
with scissors); I know about cropping and resizing. But want to create a
non-square image. Thanks.

Hi Kevin,

which version of PowerPoint do you use? There is no such "scissor" in the
program, as you describe. You will get the best results by using an image
editing program. But you can try to draw a freehand shape and fill it with
your picture.

Best regards,
Ute

Kevin,
Not natively in PPT, you could do so using SnagIt. All sorts of edges there,
torn - wave - saw...

In addition to the other suggestions, you could also draw a freeform shape
and fill it with the background (use Format Object and the fill dropdown on
the Colors and Lines tab, not the fill paint bucket icon on the drawing
toolbar), then place that on top of the picture you want to mask out.

But definitely, an image editing program or something with pre-set edge
tools would be better.
