importing chart into powerpoint

I am a basic level user of powerpoint / Excel.  

I can copy and paste a chart in to powerpoint.  I can import a specific
chart into powerpoint, but neither seem to work properly because when I
update the data in excel - the powerpoint chart doesn't update, only the
excel chart does.

Any advice.
BTW:  I am using Office 2002

Hi Quint

Have a go at pasting it as a link - copy chart then in powerpoint edit ->
paste special -> radio button paste as link on left hand side. Voila, a chart
that updates :-)
