how to set "Auto fit text to placeholder" as default?

Tools - AutoCorrection options - AutoFormat as you type - in the middle
there are two options to AutoFit text in placeholders. Normally they are on
by default, if I remember correctly. Does this answer your question, or have
I misread it completely?

Hello Luc,

I believe that you understood me correctly. and you have really pointed out
what I need. but I have checked this settings in my PPT 2007. It has been set
but doesn't work. So that I, myself, am confused much.

Hello Luc,

I have tested that setting. the function of the setting you mentioned to me
is allow the user to make decision that stop or not "Auto fit ..." when the
content in the text box exceeds the scope.

but why the "stop fitting text to this placeholder" is the default setting?

So you are saying that you checked in PPT 2007: Office Button - PowerPoint
Options -Proofing - AutoCorrect Options - everything is checked but it does
not work when you type text in a placeholder?
Maybe you unchecked the radiobutton in that particular placeholder, if the
function is active there should appear a little icon in the bottom left
corner allowing you to change the behaviour of an individual placeholder
(double horizontal line with two vertical arrows). Click on it and see if
the fit to is active. If you want the not to fit option as your standard,
click on the last option set Autocorrect options, which allows you to change
the default behaviour. If you uncheck the fit to option it will become your
standard for all future presentations.

now I have to change "stop auto fitting ..." to " auto fitting ... " to each
single page. I hope that if I changed once, the result would affect all the
future slides. but it really doesn't. This is my trouble.

That is strange, works fine for me here. You have rebooted and tried again I
suppose.
I'm stumped, you could try this:
Office Button - PowerPoint Options - Resources - About (last category on
your right) - Run diagnostics tool.
If that does not work I am out of options.

Another possibility, not obvious but here it goes. Go to View - Slide Master
View in the Presentation views group - select the object placeholder -
right-click - format Shape (bottom) - on your left choose textbox - in the
middle section see if the radiobutton don't use AutoFit is activated, if so
choose make text smaller. Not sure about the exact wording as I am
translating as I go here.

In the US version, those three radio buttons (right-click a placeholder,
Format Shape, choose textbox on the left) read:

Do not Autofit
Shrink text on overflow
Resize shape to fit text

Mine are set to Shrink text on overflow, and the autofit works.

Now, waaaay at the bottom of that dialog there's a "wrap text in shape"
option. It's buried just above the Columns button and just below the
Internal margin Left/Right input boxes. I seem to recall that if this is not
checked, it affects the autofits -- or at least something you don't really
expect it to affect. But because it's not near the autofit options, you'd
have no idea at all it's related if someone hadn't told you or if you hadn't
spent a lot of time figuring out what it was doing.

So, ViestaWu, make sure you also check "wrap text in shape" in that dialog
box.
