I have found many nice animations on the internet that I would like to
incorporate into some power point slides for teaching.  Is there a way to
download them from the internet and insert them into my power point slides?

Right-click the selected picture, then choose "Picture Save As" to save it to
your computer.
Open PowerPoint, and insert it to PPT
