When I try to use the "autoshape" -> Basic shapes and select the brace, it
appears as a double line (almost like a shadow).  How do I eliminate this?
This seems to have happened overnight.  I don't recall changing any
configuration params, and this never happened before.  Yikes.

thanks,

You have your shadow setting on. In PPT 2003 or older go to your Drawing Tool
Bar (usually at bottom of screen). Click on the Shadow Style icon. Select No
Shadow.
