Reducing Image File Size in a Slideshow (Mac)

I made a slideshow by dragging some JPG images from the Web into the
PPT window. Some of the images were huge, and PPT seems to merely
scale them. So now I have a 39 MB slideshow, which should be half that
big, if the images were reduced in size and not merely scaled. I can't
figure out how to edit the images. They seem to be contained within
the PPT file itself. The only export option is to save a Web page,
which converts all the to GIFs so they look bad. The "Allow" PNG
option didn't result in PNG files.

I'm not sure what to do. There seems to be no way to access the images
it is using.

Before inserting photos into your slide show, save them to your computer. If
they are to large, reduce size in an image editing program before inserting.
Then use Insert - Image - From File to insert your images. Drag & drop might
be quick, but file size usually becomes huge.

Best regards,
Ute

OK, but since it's too late for that now....is there anything I can do?

Sure -- if you have access to PowerPoint for Windows you could use the
Compress Pictures option (that's not available on PowerPoint:mac).

If there aren't that many pictures, it may be simplest just to delete the ones
you've got then pull them down off the web again, save to your local drive,
resize and re-import (using Insert, Picture, From File) into PPT.

If there are lots, save as a web page but ignore the web page itself.  Look in
the folder of supporting files and you'll *probably* find full-resolution
versions of the images you imported among the other filerubble there.

You can resize those in an image editor or an app like the wonderful+free
IrfanView (www.irfanview.com) and then insert them into PPT (Insert, Picture,
From File again) after deleting the originally inserted jumbo images.
