Hi. I am having A LOT of trouble and I need help ASAP. Basically, I opened
the IntroducingPowerPoint2007.potx and Metro.thmx backgrounds and they both
got messed up somehow (a white bar got inserted on the left with random
colours going on my slide - it's a real mess), and now they are both
PERMANENTLY like that. How can I revert them to how they were originally?
I am working on a project that demands the Metro.thmx as I have used that
theme for existing documents so I need a solution ASAP please.

White bars do not appear all on their own. My guess is that you moved an
image in the master. Did you switch to master view and do anything there?

As I do not know, what you did: Did you make any content changes yet? If no,
download the presentation again and apply the Metro theme to it, WITHOUT
opening or changing your master.

Best regards,
Ute

The white edge seems to be a part of this design as it shows up in 2007.  The
only way I've found around it is Design > Hide Background Graphics.  This
gets rid of the white, but it also gets rid of the design onthe section
header pages.  You can create some lines and such on your own with the
drawing tools (but only if you REALLY want to as it's quite time consuming).

I'd tried multiple times to change the master slide on this to correct the
problem.  It appears that I was trying to change the wrong part of the slide.
If you go to View > Slide Master, you can select the white bar on the left
edge (and the other bits) and delete them.
