I just discovered how to reply to your post, so here is some more info. I
cannot get a smooth text animation when I add that to a new presentation in
pp 2007 after the first slide. I notice a rather uneven timing sequence with
a long time lag when it starts and then a lot of starts and stops. If and
when I ever get it to work the first time it will not play smoothly in the
presentation trial.
The same thing happens when I open a presentation from pp 2003. It will not
play past the second slide. It may or may not continue from that point. It
has to be a problem within pp 2007 itself to cause this. If that is so, then
nothing short of an upgrade to fix the problem will suffice. But how do I get
that to MS? Oh yes, I did find out how to do an automatic transition time
sequence.

Glad to hear you found out how to do an automatic transition.
Unfortunately, what you're describing with regard to the text animations is
indeed an issue in PPT 2007 -- one that has no fix I'm aware of.
Definitely make sure you have the latest video graphics card drivers
installed, try changing hardware acceleration
(http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00129.htm) and make sure you have a local printer
driver installed (http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00605.htm). I know that last one
especially sounds weird, but PPT 2007 relies more heavily on the installed
printer drivers for its display than previous versions of PPT did.
However, Microsoft has said "The OfficeArt text caching mechanism is
"inefficient"
when by-letter or by-word animation effects are used...Using a sprite-less
animation effect (such as Appear) or simply not using by letter or by word
animation settings are the recommended workarounds."
(http://tinyurl.com/2k38kh). (Look for the post by John Langhans.)
I'm sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.

Thank you for your answer. I think that my best solution to this problem in
PP 2007 is just to swallow my money loss-which was significant for this app.
and reinstall OFFICE 2003. It is a sad note that this problem was not
considered by MS when they put Office 2007 on the market. it seems to be
"money first, customer service last. I find that OPENOFFICE has a lot of
these features, and that is free. Food for thought.
