I have a PPT with five different songs on it. All of them work except one.
The one starts on the proper slide, but when advancing to the next slide, it
starts over. I have it listed as "start automatically." Also, it is listed to
go across 5 slides. It does not "end at end of slide" or "end with click."

Interestingly, when I click "view presentation" from the animation window
and it starts from the slide, it works fine. When I play the presentation
from the beginning, it doesn't.

Have you checked the Slide Transition settings?
