That's pretty surprising actually; normally it's the Office
plug-in in Norton Antivirus that causes that.
Couple of options here...
1. Try opening Equation Editor separately. To do that, click
Start > Run > Browse, and choose Equation Editor from this path:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft
Shared\EQUATION\EQNEDT32.EXE
When you click OK, that should open Equation Editor separately,
then you can use it in PowerPoint via copy & paste.
2. Try the MathType evaluation from the link below. We created
the Equation Editor to license to Microsoft, but it was created
from MathType, so MathType has many more symbols, templates, and
other features (one of which is equation color). When you install
MathType, it will put an icon onto your PowerPoint toolbar that
you'll use to insert equations. (The icon is a blue capital Greek
letter Sigma.) There's no manual with MathType, but the Help file
is pretty extensive and has several tutorials to get you started.
