Copy-protecting a CD

Is there an easy way to copy-protect a presentation CD?

I have produced a CD presentation of a WWII fighter pilot's flying log
book, with added explanatory text. It will be available to about 50
people, but somehow it needs to be protected from being commercialised
(which the group I represent doesn't want!).

There have been previous questions about protecting a CD from copying, but
the replies appear to have been directed towards edit-protecting rather
than stopping the CD from being copied.

Thanks and regards,

Brian.

Brian,

It's extremely difficult (if not impossible) to protect any content on a CD.

All you can do is make it difficult to copy or have a strongly worded (or
play on peoples good nature) notice not to copy the cd.

That certainly seems to be the case! The best methods appear to be buying
pre-prepared CD blanks and suing those (holographic image overlay or
underlay, I believe).

Not suitable for our small band of enthusiasts!

Yes, I have, thank you, but it doesn't do what's needed here.

I have protected the file against editing, using the WinXP system, but my
concern is proliferation of the CD beyond the group of people I mentioned.

Looks like a message about copyright, etc., might be the only realistic
possibility.

?? If you made it read-only, that's not much protection. Just sayin'.

Just as an aside, really - this group is so useful and informative that
the database is getting very large! Congratulations to all involved in
keeping the information flowing.

Any chance of a disc with all the tips on it? Just a thought...

I suspect your best bet will be to rely on copyright law, though if you have
some working Spitfires, you might sharpen the law's teeth by offering to strafe
anyone who steals your work. <g>

Google Groups does a pretty good job of indexing the newsgroup.

The PPT FAQ (http://www.pptfaq.com) has been compiled from time to time on the
CD distributed at PPTLive (http://www.pptlive.com).

I wish! Even a "new build" Spitfire is more than one million UK pounds,
let alone an original!

You have to be in line at PPTLive when it's distributed, I suspect.

But you might try contacting Rick Altman, PPTLive's Maestro, Ringmaster, Etc.
about it.  ISTR that he's sold extra copies of the show book+cd in the past.

Or come join us at PPTLive this year.  Ever so much cheaper than Spitfires. ;-)

I'll bet you can find lots of well-heeled zillionaires who'd love to come along
and ...

rats

It's a single-seater.

Another grand plan goes down in flames.

(:-))

Actually, the most used Spitfire still flying is a two-seater model (in
tandem) and you can have a ride for a very large fee...
...but we digress from the real subject. Apologies!
