A technique we use to highlight a word or two in a sentence is to place a
rectangular box behind the word(s) with a striking background color.

It is very difficult to visually align the box vertically and horizontally
around the word(s).

Can anyone suggest an alternative technique which would achieve the same
effect?

I do this often with lawyer's projects.

After your highlights are drawn, select all highlights, then use the Align
or Distribute tool found in the Draw drop up menu. If it's something you do
often, you'll want to drag these tools onto your PPT interface (I suggest the
Draw toolbar)
