embedding a converted narration mp3 file into powerpoint, as RIFF

i hope somebody can take me out of my misery.
we need to convert original wavs into smaller files, so have opted for mp3s.
i have in the meantime found a way to trick ppt into thinking that my mp3 is
a wav by converting it into another file that has a RIFF wav header.  the
conversions are working fine, albeit with a mish mash of programs, and i
don't seem to get any loss of quality or content.

however, as soon as i insert my newly converted mp3 with its RIFF wav header
into a ppt slide, it chops the narration before it gets to the end.

i have already played this file through media player to ensure that the
whole things is there, and it is.  so the problem seems to be occuring within
ppt itself.

does anybody have any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

thanks in advance

Tania,

The "trick" of fooling PPT into accepting an MP3 as a wav file has also
sorts of possible issues, I think you just found one of them.  :-(

Where have you inserted the RIFF-WAV? Into a slide or into a transition?

Hi Sandy,
it's gone into a slide.

Try placing it in the transition. Go to Slide Show > Slide transition. In the
task pane at the right, under Modify transiition, use the Sound drop down
menu to browse to and embed your sound.

thanks for that idea Sandy.
tried it, but unfortunately it didn't work... it's still cutting off at the
same point as previously.... could this be a compatibility issue? any other
ideas?

thanks
Tania

Since I haven't had a similar problem it's hard to say. Which concerter

hmm, that doesn't bode well, since i am using cdex!  what i've noticed is
that the length of my file gets modified once it gets converted with cdex.
say i have a 3 mins mp3 file, when i convert it with cdex, that gets reduced
to 2.20mins,even though if i play the new "wav" by itself the whole 3 mins
are still there.  it seems that ppt picks up this new length and that's where
it cuts off.  is there a way that i can change that length, or do something
else that will make ppt play the whole file?

thanks again.

Is your hardware acceleration set. Go to Slide Show > Set up show. Check Use
Hardware Graphics Acceleration.

just ticked that option. what should it be doing?  it's still cutting the
sound file off at 2.20mins.....
