The back ground is grey/white gradient and the text is black. When I edit a
text field and there is no text highlighted the background turns a dark blue
and the text stays black.
Thanks
Mike

So it's not set to the scheme background color?

A scheme color or not?
To determine this, select the text, click the down-arrow next to the "A" button on the
drawing toolbar. "Automatic" or one of the color chips in the first row may appear to
be "depressed" or highlighted. If so, which? What does the tooltip say when you
hover the mouse over the chip?
And again, what are the scheme colors?

Ahhh when I set it to automatic it fixes the background. Thanks, that got me
in the right direction.

Sweet ... thanks for coming back with the results, Mike.
