I have added all my photos and when I play the slide show, it stays only on
the first slide and does not advance to the next one.

First check that slide transition is set to "Auto After ..."

In 2007 Animation tab > make sure Advance slide > Automatically after is
ticked
In earlier version Slide Show > Slide Transition > auto after

If this is ticked is there music or video on slide 1 if so see:

Click Slide Show > Slide Transition. Under advance slide, put a checkmark on
automatically after. Set a time of your preference. Click Apply to All so
that it will be applied to entire presentation.
