I used to have Office 2003 and 2007 together and I was working perfectly.
Suddenly and without doing any extra thing on the system, all charts don't
wan't to be edited or opened either on PP 2003 or 2007, I always get the
message "Microsoft Office PowerPoint can't start the application required to
oben this object"

I hope any one can help me on that as it's very crucial.
The corrective steps I made is uninstalling both office versions and
reinstall again but nothing happened.

Best regards,

Try re-registering MSGraph (the charting engine PPT 2003 uses) by following
the instructions here: http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00236.htm

Then run Office Diagnostics in PPT 2007 by going to Office Button | PPT
Options | Resources. This may fix whatever the issue between PPT 2007 and
Excel is. (PPT 2007 uses Excel 2007 for its charting. It may be that it's
pointing to Excel 2003 for some reason, or it could be that Excel 2007 and
PPT 2007 are having issues. Diagnostics should take care of that. Or it
could be that you're working in compatibility mode, and therefore, you're
working with MSGraph. Re-regtistering as described above may help with
that.)

its charts.
Please let me know if you have any other option.
Thanks in advance.

Hm. I expected that re-registering MSGraph would resolve the issue, since
it's PPT 2003 and its charts.

Using PPT 2003 only, can you start a new, blank presentation, choose Insert
| Chart, and insert a chart? Click on the slide to de-activate the chart,
then double-click it to try to open it. Does it open?

Save the file, close it, then re-open it in PPT 2003. Try to double-click
the chart again. Does it open?

(I'm just trying to take PPT 2007 chart conversion completely out of the
picture to maybe help pinpoint the problem.)

Also, what antivirus program do you use?

Let me tell you first what message I get when I try to register the
ghraph.exe as I think the registeration failes.
I have 2 graphs under office11 & Office 12 which is I believe 2003 & 2007.
When I try to register any of them I get the next message:
"Graph failed to restart correctly last time. Starting graph in safe mode
will help you correct or isolate a startup problem. Do you want to start
graph in safe mode?
If I said Yes I get the next message:
This program can only run from with another program.

?? What shall I do now.
I tried what you said but didn't work, the problem is in 2003 and even if I
opened a Presetation made by 2003 with 2007, the chart can't be opened or
converted so I have the same problem exactly.

Have you tried "Detect and repair" in PPT 2003?

Thanks for the additional information.

Have you rebooted recently? Try that -- turn off the computer, go get a cup
of coffee, then come back and re-start it and try creating a chart in a new
PPT 2003 file.

And again, what antivirus program are you using?

Hi Echo,
Yes sure I rebooted several times, I made a clean install from the scratch
even (deleting all OFFICE installation with the reg vaules even) and then
reinstall again I had the same error.
Moreover I tried to creat PPT on 2007 and after I edited the chart and
closed it when I re-open by 2007 and try to edit the data of it, the Excel
sheet don't come up at all and I can't see the value again or adjust them
I will try to make a repair installation for the Windows :(

I don't know what the issue is, then, sorry. I think you may want to call
Microsoft Product Support at this point.

As far as creating a chart in 2007 and then reopening and trying to edit the
file...PPT 2007 uses Excel 2007 exclusively to create and edit charts. You
can work in "compatibility mode" in PPT 2007, though -- and especially then
you may be prompted to "convert" the 2007 (Excel) charts to 2003 (MSGraph)
charts. You can convert them even if you're not working in compatibility
mode, though. If you've converted them, it makes sense to me they're not
working -- because they should open in MSGraph, but that's not working
properly for you.

Anyway, I do think it's time to call Microsoft about this one.

Just finished the hectec step of making a Repaire installation, and guess
what it's been solved. I was so idiot that I didn't try this before
uninstalling everything :)
We learn every day how silly our computers are :)

So running diagnostics didn't work but the repair installation did? How very
interesting. Thanks for reporting back with this information!

Hi Echo,

Yes diagnostics didn't do anything, and the repair installation was for the
Windows XP not for office.
