Try setting up a shape how you would like the default to be . RIGHT click >
set as default shape

Hello John,
I had the same issue and was ecstatic th hear the solution. Only problem is
this only works for the presentation you're in. Once you close it and open
PowerPoint again, the defaults are back to where they were. Can you tell
us how to change them globally?
